It looks like Samsung has a fitness band coming our way which design seems inspired by Aliens! The Korean giant received a patent for such device from the Patent and Trademark Office in the United States. The newly approved filing describes a “the ornamental design for a mobile communications device” with what looks like a lightweight design and a focus on health tracking.
Samsung’s patented device does not pack a display like the Gear Fit. It will offer a Xiaomi Mi Band-like, no-frills design, connect directly to a smartphone, and focus solely on fitness tracking. The patent, which was filed back in March 2014, doesn’t offer many details on what Samsung may be planning.

The patent filing’s sketches reveal that it will attach via a clasp. A loop setup will likely allow for easy storage of the band, or carrying it around as a basic step counter. Either way, we may not know the truth about Samsung’s mysterious fitness tracker for a while, if ever. Just because the company patents an idea doesn’t mean it will ever become an actual product, though this one seems like a relatively easy concept to pull off.
