How To: Setup & pair your Apple Watch with iPhone for the 1st time

If you are one of the lucky few to receive your Apple Watch on launch day, you are probably excitedly going through the steps to setting up and customizing your device. This is the first wearable in the history that has momentum behind it by virtue of being a brand-new product from the world's biggest consumer electronics company. An order placed today won't make it to your doorstep until four-to-six weeks from now. This post is for early Apple Watch owners. What should you do after unboxing your beautiful Watch? With a completely new operating system to get used to, we’ve got a couple of tips for getting your Apple Watch ready for daily use.

Before Proceeding:
It's a pretty easy process, but it is a bit time-consuming; be prepared to spend at least 20 minutes. Make sure your iPhone's Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned on, as the Apple Watch needs Bluetooth to connect with your iPhone. And finally, be certain you've got an iPhone 5 or later: the Apple Watch doesn't work with any other phone. The phone have to be on iOS 8.2 or later. Before starting make sure both device have enough power to complete the session.

1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone
Then tap a language on your Apple Watch. You can scroll through the list by rotating the Digital Crown or swiping the screen.

2. Pair your devices
Tap Start Pairing on your Apple Watch and again on your iPhone. A pairing animation should appear on your Apple Watch. Hold your iPhone over the pairing animation on your Apple Watch. Center the watch face in the onscreen viewfinder on your iPhone until a message says Your Apple Watch is Paired. If you don’t see the pairing animation or if your iPhone doesn't read it, then you have to pair your devices manually.

3. Set up and pick a wrist
On your iPhone, tap Set Up as New. If you’ve set up once before, you can tap Restore from Backup on your iPhone and follow onscreen steps to get to the Wrist Preference screen. Pick a wrist by tapping Left or Right on your iPhone. Then read terms and conditions and tap Agree to continue.

4. Enter your Apple ID password
You'll need to sign in with your Apple ID password to enjoy features like Digital Touch, Apple Pay and Handoff. Your iPhone settings for Usage and Diagnostics, Location Services, and Siri will transfer to your Apple Watch, and the other way around. So if you change the settings of these services, those changes will apply to both of your devices.

5. Make a Passcode
On your iPhone, choose whether to make a passcode for your Apple Watch. You'll need a Passcode for features like Apple Pay. If you tap Create a Passcode or Add a Long Passcode on your iPhone, you'll be asked to make a personal code using your Apple Watch. Then decide whether your Apple Watch will unlock with your iPhone.
