The Apple Watch release date is upon us and Google, despite the myriad attempts of its hardware partners, appears to still be having quite a few problems converting the masses to Android Wear. Choice is not the problem, as there are tons of devices at a range of price points to choose from. Ditto for design –– Android Wear devices come in all shapes and sizes. So what gives? A new report says Google is working on getting its year-old Android Wear SmartWatch platform to work with the iPhone, and is very close to finishing it. It’s from an anonymous source for now. But if true, it means Google would be able to position Android Wear-compatible watches from LG, Samsung, and other manufacturers right up against the new Apple Watch.
The move would radically expand Google's potential customer base because it would let iPhones work with Android Wear-powered SmartWatches. Apple sold 66.5 million iPhones in the last quarter alone. SmartWtches based on Google's Android Wear, which currently only work with other Android smartphones, have had a slow start as consumers question the need for the devices.

The fledgling Android Wear app for the iPhone so far provides basic functions on the iPhone, such as notifications to the user about incoming messages, emails and more. It also provides Google Now services and other features on iPhones, other reports have stated.
Word of Android Wear coming to the iPhone first emerged in early March. It was suggested that Google could announce official support at May's Google I/O conference. Whatever happens, it'll be nice to see additional choices for wearable accessories for iPhone users.
