Samsung’s latest Smartwatch, gear S2 has caught the wearable industry’s attention, receiving favorable opinions from many critics and it’s likely that customers might respond in kind when the device arrives October 2015. Before the Gear S2 was formally unveiled it was rumored that the smartwatch would have a 200mAh battery but in reality it comes with a 250mAh battery which is capable of providing 3 days of power where most of Smartwatches including Apple Watch is trying hard to pass a single day so far. Experts are saying that the birth of the Gear S2 would have been impossible without recent innovations in battery-making technology, which is the most important component for SmartWatches. Samsung SDI’s free-form battery technology was actually instrumental in the creation of this smartwatch.

Samsung’s free-form technology which utilizes space much more efficiently thus providing more capacity without taking up as much space. Samsung SDI started developing the free-form battery technology in December last year and finished in April this year, it started mass producing the battery in August and it was showcased for the first time with the Gear S2. That is a truly impressive development cycle and it is always astonishing to see how fast industry leaders can push a concept all the way to an actual consumer product with tangible benefits to the user.
