One of the first companies to announce plans to make a battery strap for Apple Watch— allowing you to charge the device while on the go while continuing to wear it— has confirmed plans to tap into Apple Watch’s hidden port to charge the device and offer faster charging. The new Reserve Strap aims to use the 6-pin diagnostic port - hidden inside of the band port on the bottom of the Watch - as the main source of providing power to the device, shirking the heart rate sensor's magnetic inductive charging altogether. According to maker of the upcoming Reserve Strap accessory, and even allow for faster more efficient charging compared to Apple’s own solution.

As Reserve Strap says, it means that accessory makers can now build more elegant straps that look a lot closer to the originals than a janky external case. The charging band is available for pre-order for $249 .
The revamped Reserve Strap will take advantage of a hidden 6-pin port in Cupertino’s smartwatch. The connector allows for higher charge capacity and shorter charging times. It also improves the overall durability of the Reserve Strap and doesn’t interfere with the functionality of the Apple Watch. It’s also interesting to let the imagination run wild and conjure up thoughts of what other magnificent and innovative third-party accessories could hit the market using the same hidden port.
