TAG Heuer luxury Android SmartWatch will cost around $1400/€1260

If you're looking forward to picking up the first SmartWatch from a major Swiss watchmaker, it's going to cost you. The watch division of LVMH (TAG Heuer) has announced that it will start to sell its first SmartWatch this November, priced at $1400/€1260/£910. Back in January, they made it clear that TAG Heuer would need help with the technological aspects of a SmartWatch since producing such a timepiece is much different than making a traditional one. So TAG Heuer went out and partnered with Google and Intel. You'd be hard pressed to find two better tech companies to work with on such a project.

TAG Heuer's Android smartwatch will cost you $1,400

That's in the ballpark of lower-end quartz models from the watchmaker's Formula 1 line, but it makes even the $1,000 steel made Apple Watch seem like a relative bargain. That money will get you more than just a luxurious brand name, however. TAG Heuer estimates that the TAG Heuer device will last 40 hours on battery.

At present Intel offers two solutions suitable for chronographs: Intel Quark system-on-chip as well as Intel Curie module. The Quark features one Pentium [P54C] core, an LPDDR2 memory controller and a host of I/O capabilities. The Curie module (pictured below) announced in January integrates one Quark SoC, low-power integrated DSP sensor hub with a proprietary pattern matching accelerator, Bluetooth Low Energy, 6-axis combo sensor with accelerometer and gyroscope as well as battery charging circuitry (PMIC). It is highly likely that Curie will be used for TAG Heuer’s smart timepiece.
