Alcatel on Friday announced the GO Watch, a new smartwatch that matches its fresh Go Play smartphone designs. The focus is on customizable shells and a more colorful approach to the smartwatch market. The Go Watch is, Alcatel asserts, waterproof, dustproof and shockproof, which makes it more durable than most of the smartwatches currently on the market. That could make it a solid choice for sporty types looking to keep an eye on incoming texts while scaling mountains, or just those who have a history of accidentally dropping gadgets into the sink.

The screen (1.22", 240 x 240px) looks quite decent by smartphone standards but we found the UI a bit laggy. On the plus side it supports both Android and iOS devices. This isn’t an Android Wear watch by the way, it runs proprietary software. The watch features a heart rate sensor and an altimeter. The GO Watch's spec sheet revolves around a Cortex-M4 based processing unit, and a 225mAh battery that takes an hour to charge and claims to run the watch for 2 to 5 days!. The device is compatible with Android 4.3 or above, and iOS 7 or above.
The Alcatel Go Watch has a unique emotion feature that can be activated with a long press on the home button. It basically brings up an emotion command, telling you to go do something — dive, rage, whatever, and you can share those “emotions” with the world. The emotional graphic is created from information culled from the heart rate sensor, gyroscope and accelerometer, so if you’re sitting around all day, it might tell you to go be active.
Alcatel hasn't yet announced pricing or release date for the Go Watch.
